Information sessions for students

To: UCSC students
From: Associate Vice Chancellor, Colleges, Housing and Educational Services, Sue Matthews

Dear UCSC students,

As some of you may already know, UCSC is about to embark on a significant new housing development project that will bring up to 3000 new beds to the west side of campus with the first phase of development targeted for occupancy in 2020. The project is called Student Housing West, and we are utilizing a public, private partnership model, or P3, to develop the master plan and construct these facilities. This P3 model is a part of UC President Napolitano's systemwide housing initiative to bring up to 14,000 new housing beds across the entire UC system by the year 2020.

UC Santa Cruz and UC Riverside are the first two campuses to take advantage of this opportunity and we are currently in pursuit of selecting a team who will lead the development of new housing for undergraduates, graduates and for students with families. During the development, we will continue to provide services for students with families.

You are invited to an informational session to hear more and to ask any questions you may have about the overall project.

Student Panel Sessions

Later this month we will hold student panel sessions. These sessions will provide an opportunity for the three development teams who will be submitting housing proposals to pose programmatic questions to our students. This feedback, in addition to the studies and surveys we have done over the last two years in preparation for the development of housing in the west, will help inform teams as they put together their proposals.

If you are interested in serving on either of the student panels, please RSVP. We can accommodate up to 20 panel participants at each session.

The student panel sessions will be held:

  • Wednesday, May 24th, 1:30-3:00pm
  • Wednesday, May 24th, 5:00-6:30pm

While there will be many more opportunities for stakeholder feedback and consultation forthcoming, we wanted to provide an opportunity for you to hear more about this initiative before the end of the quarter.
